Brain Training for Memory Enhancement

An exciting program will be offered to the brain injured community thanks to the Community initiatives and Research Program through the Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba.

Manitoba Brain Injury Association is offering a new progam - Brain Training for Memory Enhancement project. Over the next 24 months, 60 consenting participants with acquired brain injury (ABI) will be engaged in a simple ABA design research project. The project will measure treatment outcomes that occur as a result of the Brain Fitness Program – a computer software assisted cognitive training program.

The Brain Fitness Program software has been shown to improve memory, strengthen communication, and sharpen thinking at any age. To date, published research on this computer software has focused on training the healthy brain. This project will evaluate the effectiveness of the software in improving the cognitive status of people who have experienced an ABI.

Participants will be provided with computerized cognitive training with weekly coaching from a Speech-Language Pathologist experienced in the use of software for adults with communication disorders and trained to use the Brain Fitness Program. Between sessions, participants will complete five-45 minute lessons at home using the software on a laptop loaned to the participant.

If you would like additional information on the project or wish to refer an individual to the program please contact MBIA.

Hawaiian Oyster Odyssey

Ever been to a HOO? The MBIA in partnership with WECARE Home Health Services and Brain Injury Association of Canada is hosting a Hawaiian Oyster Odyssey (HOO).  The evening promises to be a fun-filled event.  There will be an oyster bar and the food and refreshments will be Hawaiian (of course!)  You will gain a greater awareness about brain injury as well as an opportunity to network with survivors of brain injuries or individuals involved in supporting or treating Manitobans who live with a brain injury.

This year’s HOO will be held September 25. Please contact us at 975-3280 for further information.
