Ever been to a HOO? The MBIA in partnership with WECARE Home Health Services and Brain Injury Association of Canada is hosting a Hawaiian Oyster Odyssey (HOO). The evening promises to be a fun-filled event. There will be an oyster bar and the food and refreshments will be Hawaiian (of course!) You will gain a greater awareness about brain injury as well as an opportunity to network with survivors of brain injuries or individuals involved in supporting or treating Manitobans who live with a brain injury.
This year’s HOO will be held September 25. Please contact us at 975-3280 for further information.
This successful fundraising event has always enjoyed huge participation from both private and corporate citizens and we are counting on an even larger turn out this year. This September 26, 2010 we have planned a day chock-full of fun, entertainment and fellowship. We even have food, prizes and surprises for everybody. Each registrant will receive an “official umbrella”. In Winnipeg we have three routes through beautiful Assinaboine Park. Registrants can walk a 1.5 kilometer, 3 kilometer, or a 5 kilometer route. In Dauphin, our Walk is through the scenic Vermillion Park. Registrants will gather at the Picnic Shelter to register at 1:30pm before heading off on their route. Walk will start at 2pm.
For more information and registration packages you can call Nancy Lussier at 975-3272 or email her at mbiaparty@mts.net.
An annual event staged by MBIA in partnership with several organizations mentioned below, the Mock Car Crash is intended to expose Manitoba youth to the consequences of such risk taking behaviour as driving while impaired, without a seatbelt, and while speeding. The first Crash was held on October 19th, 1998 in Oak Bluff, Manitoba. The event was designed to show students firsthand the after effects of a fatal collision, such as the impact on the family and emergency personnel.
With the help of various organizations, including Headingley RCMP Traffic Services, Manitoba Public Insurance. Red River Exhibition Park, Winnipeg Fire & Paramedic Service, City of Winnipeg Police Services (Traffic Division), Manitoba Safety Council, Canadian Red Cross, Paramedic Association of Manitoba, Province of Manitoba Transportation and Government Services, RCMP Communications Centre, and Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, a mock car crash is staged before an audience of 250 grade 12 students.
MBIA stages two Mock Crashes annually.
